Selection Process
Selection is based on the recruitment stages specified in the relevant CEN and the post for which a candidate is considered. The general process includes the following stages:
The applicable skill assessment depends on the post. Not every candidate will take the same additional test. Read the recruitment-process section of the relevant notification for the precise requirements.

Important CBT Preparation Topics
- Mathematics: Number systems, fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, mensuration, algebra, geometry and elementary statistics.
- Reasoning: Number and letter series, analogies, coding-decoding, relationships, syllogisms, puzzles, Venn diagrams, data sufficiency, analytical reasoning and interpretation of graphs.
- General Awareness: Current affairs, Indian history, freedom struggle, geography, polity, economy, general science, technology, environment, sports, culture, important organisations, government programmes and transport systems.
Use these topics as a preparation checklist, not as a guarantee that every topic will appear in a particular paper. Refer to the complete syllabus in the relevant notification.
How to Apply Online
- Open the official RRB application portal.
- Read CEN 06/2026 if you are applying for a Graduate-level post, or CEN 07/2026 for an Undergraduate-level post.

- Enter personal details exactly as required by the notification and your supporting certificates.
- Select only one RRB and carefully enter your preferences for the available posts and railway zones.
- Check educational qualifications, age eligibility, medical standards and any applicable reservation or relaxation provisions.
- Complete the live photograph and signature requirements and upload any other documents requested by the portal.
- Pay the applicable examination fee online.
- Review every entry before final submission. Save or print the submitted application and payment confirmation for your records.

Documents and Information to Prepare
Prepare the documents relevant to your individual circumstances and the requirements of the official portal. Depending on the applicant and post, these may include:
- Class 10 certificate for date-of-birth verification.
- Class 12 certificate and marksheets for Undergraduate-level eligibility.
- Degree certificate and marksheets for Graduate-level eligibility.
- Valid category certificate where reservation or relaxation is claimed.
- Valid EWS or other applicable supporting documents, where relevant.
- PwBD certificate or ex-servicemen documentation, where applicable.
- Recent photograph or live image and signature as instructed by the application system.
- Valid identity information and an active personal mobile number and email address.
- Any additional document prescribed for the selected post or applicable special condition.
This is a general preparation checklist, not a substitute for the official document list. Follow the file format, size, certificate format and upload instructions shown in the current notification and application portal.
Medical Standards and Fitness
Each post has a prescribed medical standard. Candidates should check the post-wise medical requirements in the relevant notification before selecting preferences. The standards are not identical across all NTPC posts.
Medical fitness is an important eligibility condition. A candidate found medically unsuitable for an opted post may not receive an alternative appointment. Applicants should therefore review the medical standards in Annexure A and the detailed medical-fitness provisions before submitting their choices.
Age Relaxation and Reservation
Age relaxation and reservation are governed by the official notification and applicable rules. Depending on the candidate's eligibility and category, provisions may apply to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates.
- Use the prescribed age calculation date of 1 January 2027.
- Confirm the exact relaxation applicable to your category and post.
- Ensure that certificates are valid and follow the format prescribed in the notification.
- Do not assume that two relaxations can always be combined; the applicable rules determine how relaxation is calculated.
- Check whether the relevant reservation or relaxation applies to the vacancy and category for which you are applying.
Applicants should not rely solely on general recruitment summaries for category-specific eligibility. Read the official CEN carefully before paying the application fee.
Beware of Fake Railway Recruitment Websites
Protect your money and personal information.
- Use the official RRB website and application portal.
- Do not pay an agent who promises guaranteed selection or a railway appointment.
- Do not share OTPs, passwords or account credentials with unknown people.
- Do not trust messages claiming that you can bypass the examination by paying money.
- Verify recruitment notices, corrigenda, examination dates and results through official RRB sources.
- Remember that selection depends on the prescribed recruitment process, merit, eligibility and other applicable conditions.
