2. Previous-Year Question Papers and Answer Keys
Previous-year questions help candidates understand question formats, difficulty level and time management. Prefer official question-and-response sheets whenever they are available.

5. Priority-Wise Preparation Plan
This is a practical study order, not an official chapter-wise weightage prediction. Actual questions can vary by shift.
Priority 1 — Build Your Foundation
Mathematics: Number System, BODMAS, Fractions, Decimals, LCM, HCF, Ratio, Proportion and Percentage.
Reasoning: Analogy, Classification, Number Series, Alphabet Series, Coding-Decoding, Directions and Blood Relations.
General Awareness: General Science basics and daily current affairs.
Target: Understand each concept and practise 15–25 questions per study session.
Priority 2 — Strengthen Arithmetic and Static GK
Mathematics: Average, Profit and Loss, Discount, Simple and Compound Interest, Time and Work, Pipes, Speed, Distance and Train problems.
Reasoning: Syllogism, Venn Diagrams, Statement–Conclusion, Mathematical Operations and basic puzzles.
General Awareness: Indian Polity, History, Geography and Environment.
Target: Solve topic-wise questions and write down recurring mistakes.
Priority 3 — Complete the Remaining Syllabus
Mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry and Statistics.
Reasoning: Data Sufficiency, Decision Making, Maps, Graph Interpretation and mixed question sets.
General Awareness: Economy, Computers, Culture, Government Programmes, Transport, Science and Technology.
Target: Revise weak topics and practise mixed questions under time limits.
Priority 4 — Mock Tests and Revision
- Take full-length tests under the prescribed time limit.
- Analyse wrong answers and unanswered questions.
- Revise formulas and factual notes.
- Practise selecting questions strategically to manage negative marking.
6. Six-Week Study Timetable
| Week | Mathematics | Reasoning | General Awareness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Number System, Fractions, LCM/HCF | Analogy, Classification, Series | Science basics and current affairs |
| Week 2 | Percentage, Ratio, Average | Coding, Directions, Relationships | History and Polity |
| Week 3 | Profit/Loss, Discount, Interest | Syllogism, Venn, Conclusions | Geography and Environment |
| Week 4 | Time/Work, Speed/Distance | Puzzles, Operations, Data Sufficiency | Economy, Computers, Culture |
| Week 5 | Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Statistics | Mixed sets and weak topics | Science and static GK revision |
| Week 6 | Formula revision and practice | Timed practice and error review | Full revision and current affairs |
Remember: Six weeks is a suggested revision framework, not a guarantee of selection. If you have more time, spread the syllabus across a longer period and increase practice gradually.
7. Daily Study Timetable — Three Hours
🧮 45 minutes — Mathematics: Learn one concept, solve examples and practise questions.
🧠 40 minutes — Reasoning: Practise one question type and review mistakes.
🌍 45 minutes — General Awareness: Study one static topic or science chapter.
📰 25 minutes — Current Affairs: Read and revise important events.
📝 25 minutes — PYQs: Solve a timed question set and check explanations.
If you have less time, maintain a smaller daily routine instead of stopping completely. Consistency and revision are more useful than studying a large amount once and forgetting it.
8. How to Use Previous-Year Question Papers Effectively
- Study the concept first. Learn the method and solve a few examples before attempting a timed set.
- Practise topic-wise questions. For example, complete Percentage practice before moving to Profit and Loss.
- Use genuine papers where possible. Start with official RRB question/response resources if accessible.
- Maintain an error notebook. Record the question type, your mistake, the correct method and the date of revision.
- Separate accuracy from speed. First learn to answer correctly, then practise within a time limit.
- Review every mock test. Find whether mistakes came from weak concepts, calculation errors, misreading or poor time management.
- Repeat difficult questions. Reattempt incorrect questions after a few days without looking at the solution.

10. Common Preparation Mistakes to Avoid
- Reading without practising: Follow every study session with questions.

- Trusting every online PDF: Verify whether it is an official paper, memory-based set or a practice paper.
- Ignoring negative marking: Make answer choices based on knowledge and risk, not guesswork alone.
- Using an old syllabus without checking: Compare all study materials against the relevant 2026 CEN and corrigenda.
11. Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Where can I find official RRB NTPC previous-year question papers?
Check your regional RRB website for question/response and answer-key notices. Some resources may be accessible only during a specified window or through candidate login. The RRB Chennai link above is an example of an official previous-cycle resource.
Q2. Are the Graduate and Undergraduate syllabuses completely different?
Both levels use the core subjects of Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness under the established NTPC structure. Check each 2026 notification for the applicable examination details and rules.
Q3. Which subject should I study first?
Start with foundational Mathematics and core Reasoning topics, while studying General Awareness daily. Adjust the order based on your own weak areas and practice-test results.
Q4. Is a six-week study plan enough?
It depends on your existing knowledge, available study hours and exam schedule. Use the plan as a revision framework rather than a promise of success.
Q5. Can I rely only on previous-year papers?
No. Use PYQs to understand question styles and test your preparation, but cover the full applicable syllabus and practise unfamiliar questions as well.
Q6. Where should I verify the latest examination rules?
Use the official RRB website directory and the relevant CEN notification. If a corrigendum changes an earlier rule, follow the latest applicable official update.
